How I approach mentoring
A good mentor does not have to hand you the answer. More often what matters is helping you see the problem correctly and build the solution yourself.
So sessions are usually less about “what should I use” and more about how you're reading the system: which facts you actually have, which assumptions you've stopped noticing, and where the real decision sits.
Mentoring is focused on professional development and problem solving and is not psychotherapy or mental-health counselling.
Where this comes from
- 10+ years as a working engineer, most of it on complex products
- ~2.5 years of peer-to-peer engineering education at School 21 (École 42 model)
- Years of daily code review, in both directions
- Intensive training in structured thinking, cognitive biases and decomposition
- Mentor and supervisor experience in group-based educational programs
